60% of people born in North Dakota now live elsewhere, and only 30% of the folks living here came from another state, placing North Dakota among the least attractive states in the Union, by the tried and true standard of voting with one’s feet.

We need a lot of things to help keep people here — no one thing is the answer. A more diverse industrial base, with more and better paying jobs for our graduates, would be a nice place to start.
